Water and the Rock

A rock symbolizes everything that is solid, seemingly impervious to all but dynamite. Water is soft and friendly, and it too is something we know is vital to life. But when the slow, steady stream of water is faced with the strong, seemingly impervious rock, the lowly water, in the end, always wins. River rocks are round. Surely they were once jagged, wrest free from birth as part of a much, far larger mother we know as a mountain. But in the end, given time, water prevails. Drip, drip, drip-freeze and expand to a vapor, then back to the sneaky fluidity of its natural state. I love water, it is one way or another the sole source of energy we have and still rely upon to this very day.

 Hydro-electric power, geo-thermal  power, nuclear power, and coal power all are possible because of water and its ability to expand and contract, all right before our eyes. Whether as steam, ice, or a fluid, this miracle composed as two of the most volatile of elements in the universe has always been there for us so lets not take it for granted as it can easily destroy whatever it creates.

If I hear one more lie from this asshole, one more time I have to listen to, one more time this hack gets to spew his phony game, or stuff his phony rhetoric down the throats of sadly misinformed Americans, I'll shout. Unfortunately, from my meager position, this is about all I, myself can do. Come after me, throw me in jail. For what? Speaking the truth? For saying what others are afraid to say?

  Time and time again, the story has grown old; "Let me be clear", "You can keep your health care", "You can keep your doctor", "You'll save at least $2,500", Lies are lies, but when they are punctuated with a "period", that, my friend, is where a liar makes their fatal mistake.

  Some say this president has superior intelligence, or that his charm and wit is enough to qualify him as ambassador to the world. On the contrary, his apology tour and continued policies of downplaying America's vital role has backfired. Now, we've lost respect with our allies, those who hate us laugh at our stupid gesture that we'll let our guard down in hopes that they want to play patty cake.

 9/11, 911, however you choose to interpret its meaning, it is a date which should never be ignored. Believe me, the terrorist's memory is long and these achievements only spur them to loftier goals. These people hate us, our ideals, our freedoms, and for some reason, they love to hate our women. Because they have a voice and are not afraid. Sexy drives these radicals mad seeing it so beautifully, so inherently part of their nature, it, to them, is just not right. So, I say, keep it up ladies, you're our best weapon.

A Culinary Experience

I was around ten years old when my curiosity overcame me and I could no longer resist asking my mother, "Mom, how do you cook?" She paused for a moment, but no longer than the blink of her eye, then said the truest, but hardest to learn lesson life has ever taught me. "It's common sense." Well, that sure sounded easy enough, but it took practically thirty years of blood, sweat and tears, and a whole lot of diligent observation of not just regular, common everyday people making the same mistakes over and over again. Over those years, I'd worked with many lazy, marginally skilled chefs who wasted their time on fantasy football, pointing a finger, or assigning blame when anything went awry. It's as if they either had no knowledge to impart, or were just afraid some obscure intern might actually become as good or better than them. Then there are those rare few who lead by example, who know how valuable mentorship and developing a culture of accepting nothing less than sheer excellence need be. Karl Vogelbacher, my mentor, has an impeccable record that is easily found on the internet, although now he has accepted a position as Executive Chef, I guarantee you'll then know exactly why this young man from Switzerland was the one person whose work ethic and eagerness to teach was the primary inspiration for me, and my continuing efforts to cultivate otherwise typically overlooked immigrants, high school undergraduates, or struggling single mothers willing and eager to pay close attention to detail, show up every day, and expect the same from their peers as themselves. But firstly, it required them to set an example, then in two years--quite possibly less-- they may have learned sooner than I what it took me to grasp over a career of trial and error. Hospitality "The best advertisement money can't buy is word of mouth." When you're in a position of management, you can only be as good as the staff you must rely upon. You can't do it all by yourself. The better they are, the better you are, and the better leader you can be. After twenty years of applying myself with diligence and a lot of hard work, I finally made sous chef. Although I was only second in charge, I still had to manage a bustling hotel kitchen which consisted of three separate restaurants, a full service `round the world buffet, plus an average of over two million dollars per year in added revenue when you throw in all the lavish banquets, and 24-7 upscale room service to boot. On top of this already sizable workload, the employee cafeteria would offer the entire hotel staff a breakfast, lunch and or dinner. Of course, those were also promptly prepared by a staff whose divided attention required a true balancing act to pull off smoothly. All day, every day, those are the real rock stars of the show making it happen behind the scenes. When the crew is in sync and everything is running smoothly, it's then my turn to do what I enjoy most. Walking the ballroom or dining room floor in my brightest white chef coat and responding to the many wonderful compliments was never a gamble, but literally a certainty. The risk of having to answer to a disgruntled guest was extremely rare, but if so, I would immediately seize upon the moment to address their issue personally, usually ending with the patron(s) leaving satisfied far beyond their expectations. See, just meeting expectations is for the other guys. We commit ourselves and staff to consistently exceed the every expectation of a guest while maintaining the highest of standards in quality and excellence. It's no simple task, but there's absolutely no way I could ever accomplish such daily feats alone. The fact is, I can only be as good as the team. A team that reflects directly upon me, their success or failure is solely in my hands. And failure is flat out unacceptable. When the daily madness of the rush is done and the kitchen settles down, the next most satisfying part of my day is when I get to spend time teaching and training what I refer to as students, both verbally and physically. I make sure the interns we played host to, who may come from one of the many exceptional culinary schools around the world, are closely exposed to such things a book will not and cannot teach. Because believe me, there are many. So in my kitchen, expect to treated as a student, not just another employee. I always made my position clear about the job and how I feel about work ethic with this straight-forward statement: "If you don't like your job, then find a way to like it, learn a way to love it, or find one you can enjoy. Because if you don't, you'll just be miserable. All you need is pride in what you do and the job gets a whole lot easier. Besides, it's the only way you can be the very best you can be." "Pride Breeds Excellence" One thing I learned as chairperson of the Values Committee for Red Lion Hotels is that word of mouth is the best advertisement money cannot buy. One bad comment spreads like wildfire, but when there are so many great ones going around, success is ensured. Enjoying my job was not a conscious decision. Even I wasn't aware of this until a co-worker asked me why I always seemed so darn happy all the time. It was then I realized, "Wow, I actually do love my job." What gives? Could it possibly be because she's a real woman? One who has more balls than most men? One who actually has executive experience? One who is unafraid to oppose their own party? If there ever were a global crisis, it would be the lack of potable water. We can survive with a little too much carbon dioxide, but it's not like we don't exhale it with every breath, and the plants we depend on really need it anyway. So in that respect, we've got a really nice symbiosis goin' on with the green stuff.


The American Indian had a far better understanding of climate change than most so-called scientists. The U.S. Forestry Service spent decades making absolutely sure to stop or avoid any wildfires, until they finally learned that pine cones can't germinate without extreme heat. When the land was still bare after a year, they knew they had done their job all too well.

The Tipping Point

It's plain to see that the reverssives are on their heels and lashing out by violating the Constitution in new and evermore destructive measures than I could ever have fathomed. I'd laugh, but it's no laughing matter when felons like Robert Creamer and Van Jones get a pass, while the White House, Barack Obama, is surrounded by individuals and entities whose only mission is to collapse the United States government at any and all costs. If he could once not say "that..that, that when the stimulus bill," or "let me be clear, 1,000,000 jobs have been created or saved." or "Know this, my right-hand man, Joe Biden, will see that every dime is accounted for," "Every bill will be publicly available on C-SPAN."

And with each passing day, each redundant speech, almost every uttered word, it becomes ever more self-evident that, RADICALS ARE WELCOME IN THE WHITE HOUSE!

Saved Jobs?

Yet another lie. How can you claim to have created or saved jobs when really, we've actually lost millions of real jobs since February? Make-work is not a job, and temporary assignments are not a job. Government jobs only add to the problem. When, oh when will someone realize that real jobs come only from the private sector? Government jobs are nothing but expensive make-work. Most of them are just a shelter for nepotism.

My mother worked for the U.S. Government for 34 years, and she'll tell you that if you want something to cost ten times as much, and take five times longer, ask the government to do it. They'll be happy to oblige.

Shut down health care, cap and trade, and card-check, they are all just a Democratic scam to grasp power before their last dying breath. Without sounding like a Dem, just do it. Our children are counting on us. I'll be right there with you.

Already, there are countries like Britain buying into the world-wide fanaticism of global warming.

Besides the alarming burden of an economy-crippling possibility of universal health care, there is probability of a system of cap-and-trade being proposed to punish primarily America for its supposed sins against the climate.

But their policies have proven toothless, their actions have resulted in only handing over billions of dollars to terrorist regimes world-wide, and their so-called charitable causes cause hundreds of thousands of poverty stricken people to result in being systematically eliminated by their own corrupt societies. Now, should we allow Mr. Barack Obama to hand over to these, I don't know, Polly-Anna
organizations, the power to mandate an annual tax for the imaginary crime of "climate debt", just to support their fantastic dream of a one-world government?

The fact that this is a real possibility scares me. It should scare you too, and every born and bred American who believes in the free-market society, who believes that freedom of speech and open, unrestricted forum is the enemy of tyranny. Well, it's being deliberately shut down right before our very eyes, and don't kid yourself, before this God-forsaken presidency is come to its eagerly anticipated end. the damage may be done and our voice all but silenced.

Thankfully, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington knew the dangers of tyranny could easily infect any society. Trust them, it took their own new world took 200+ years to realize that freedom trumps over tyranny. Anyday. It's proven strong enough to defeat the ideals of Nazi-ism, Communism, Marxism, and hopefully, Globalism, and Any-ism, except for Capitalism, all in the course of two-hundred and thirty-plus years, even after achieving liberty. Amazing. No other
society has accomplished such a lofty goal in the history of mankind. Lets not let it revert back to. Think about the Egyptians, who gained and lost power over the course of millennia, only to give way to the Greeks, Romans and Chinese, who dominated history for the next two thousand years. The Brits, French, Spanish, Danish, and Russians, had all existed far longer than our fledgling experiment. And that's exactly what it it does. Will our experiment our work? Yes, it can and will, as long as we stand by the principles set forth by our founders.
Read the Declaration of Independence, or the Constitution and its amendments. If it doesn't make you cry, well, I don't know. Anytime I hear the Star Spangled Banner, God Bless America, or The Pledge of Allegiance does, even I concede watching the drill team of my high school waving the flag wets my eye. Get patriotism, it's better than any drug.
